BLHS students to stage ‘Grease’
More than 40 Basehor-Linwood High School students will hit the stage Nov. 11 through 13 to perform the crowd-pleasing musical, "Grease."
Chosen because of its popularity with high school students, this first production of the year will be staged at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 11 and 12, and a matinee will be performed at 2 p.m. Nov. 13.
"The joy (of this musical) comes in the music," said Jeff Haney, director of "Grease." "The songs are a joy to listen to and bring great memories of the 1978 movie that seemed to capture the '50s."
The Fab Four of Grease -- Sandy, Danny, Keneckie and Rizzo -- will be played by BLHS students Maggie Herbster, Lucas Turner, Andy Radcliff and Jenn Reavis, respectively. Also included in the cast are two teachers, Mary Myer as Miss Lynch and Doug Earnhardt as Teen Angel. Although the characters are familiar, the stage show is different from the late '70s movie. Yet, Haney is quick to add that they "have added a few songs that were not in the Broadway show that were in the film. ... This should help some movie diehards feel better."
Tickets are now on sale at the BLHS office and can be purchased at the door at a cost of $5 for adults and $3 for students. For more information, contact Haney at (913) 724-2266.
