Lions earn all-league honors

The Lansing High boys soccer team dominated the All-Kaw Valley League First Team when the squad was announced on Monday.

Of the 12 players on the first team, six were from Lansing. Senior forwards Ty Thackston and Brad Mock, senior midfielder Mike Bayless, senior defender Theo Daniels and junior Alex Burton were named to the first team. Junior defender Nate Markovetz also was a first-team choice as a utility player. LHS senior defender Steve Parker was named to the second team.

Three Lansing players - senior outside hitter Casey Welch, senior libero Dayna Norwood and junior middle blocker Kate Courtney - were named to the all-league volleyball team.

A number of LHS football players also received all-league recognition. Senior defensive end Ryan Robbins and senior linebacker David Kern were first-team selections. Robbins (wide receiver/kicker), senior quarterback Matt Warner, junior linebacker Joe Kohl and senior Logan Ryan (offensive and defensive line) were second-team selections. Senior offensive linemen Brian Cordes, Jordan Pratt and Chris Clemmons, junior defensive back J.T. Collins, Kern (tight end) and senior fullback Lance Fink received honorable mention recognition.
