County eligible for federal relief
Kansas communities recovering from October floods will receive federal help rebuilding local infrastructure and covering the cost of responding to the emergency, Gov. Kathleen Sebelius announced this week.
Kansas has received notification from the White House that the governor's request for federal assistance has been approved.
This opens the door for state and local governments and some nonprofit organizations to apply for money to defray costs of emergency work and the repair or replacement of disaster-damaged facilities and infrastructure.
"This money will help those counties that sustained damage to public infrastructure make needed repairs, and it will also allow recovery and rebuilding to continue with federal financial support."
Leavenworth County is among those named in the declaration.
