Flippo wins No. 5
Eustice, Mayes strong at Pleasant Ridge Invitational
Lansing High junior Lori Flippo picked up her fifth cross country title of the season as she won the junior varsity girls' race on Thursday afternoon at the Pleasant Ridge Invitational
Flippo covered the two-mile course in 14:58 to pace all runners in the JV race. Teammate Elizabeth Parks placed 17th in 18:22.
In the varsity girls' race, seniors Erin Eustice and Ashley Mayes both ran solid races and earned medals. Eustice placed seventh overall in 14:23, while Mayes was ninth in 14:39. Jylim Jaloma of Maur Hill Prep won the race in 13:02..
On the boys' side, sophomore griffin davis placed 15th in the varsity five-kilometer race in 19:24. Sophomore Jim Mayes placed 28th in 20:39. Senior Stewart Jones was 43rd as he covered the course in 22:03. Zak Layton of West Platte was the individual champion in 17:41.
The LHS junior varsity boys squad dominated its race as all five Lansing runners placed in the top 14. Freshman Matt McCurry led the way with a fourth-place finish in 20:52. Freshman Wes Applegate was sixth in 21:04 and Trenton Dorf was seventh in 21:04. A.J. glowacki placed 11th in 22:40 and Michael Hornick was 14th in 23:19.
The Lions next compete at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Kaw Valley League Championships at Wyandotte County Park. It will be the final meet for the JV squad.
