4-H Club notes
President Jason Miles called the monthly meeting of the Reno Bobwhites 4-H Club to order on Oct. 6. Austin Wiley and Aaron McIntyre led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance; the 4-H Pledge was led by the senior officers. Song leaders Aaron McIntyre and Austin Wiley led the club in singing "I've Been Working On the Railroad." Song leaders Emily Stoker and Bonnie Monahan led the club in singing "Happy Birthday" to members with October birthdays. Roll call was answered by "What time you get up on a school day."
Secretary Max Packard read the minutes from last month's meeting, which were corrected and approved. Max Packard also read a letter from the Leavenworth County Conservation District thanking the club for the free popcorn coupons donated to its booth during the fair.
Treasurer Ben Reynolds gave the treasurer's report. Reporter Norman Schlight announced that the minutes from the September meeting were submitted to The Lansing Current, Basehor Sentinel, and The Tonganoxie Mirror. New County Council Representative Nicki Gee gave the report from the county council meeting. An installation ceremony was held for senior officers.
County Achievement Night will be at 7 p.m. Oct. 29 at Riverfront Park in Leavenworth.
Donna Wiley announced that the record books had been sent off for judging and that members will soon get the results.
November 10 is the Junior Leaders planning meeting; Nov. 17 will be the Parents/Leaders meeting; Nov. 27 is the Foundation Meeting; and Nov. 29 will be VIP training. Kansas Youth Leadership Forum and the Kansas 4-H Volunteer Forums are scheduled for Nov. 18-20.
Steve Miles announced that Jason Miles and Nicole Allen would be going to the national hippology contest in Columbus, Ohio (congrats to them both!). Nicole Allen announced that she would be going with Kansas River Youth Leadership to help the Hurricane Katrina animal victims. She will be going with 14 other leaders to Louisiana and would accept donations of pet toys, food or other pet supplies to take.
Patrick Monahan gave an informative talk on exercise and eating suggestions. Colton Tim gave a safety tip that you should never eat candy that has an open wrapper. Makayla Leslie gave a comprehensive talk on competitive softball. Nicole Allen gave read a poem titled "The Day I Stopped Traffic."
Donna Wiley announced that we had two guests (potential new members) Chelsea Smith and Ashley Long.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
