Obit: Imogene Berning
Imogene Berning, 97, Edwardsville, formerly of Cowgill, Mo., died Monday, Sept. 5, 2005, at the Edwardsville Convalescent Center in Edwardsville.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Cowgill United Methodist Church in Cowgill, Mo., with burial following in Cowgill Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs. Memorial contributions may be made to United Methodist Committee on Relief in care of the funeral home.
Mrs. Berning was born July 31, 1908, in rural Norborne, Mo. She moved to Clearview City in De Soto from Cowgill in 1981. In 1991 she moved to Nettleton Manor in Bonner Springs, then to Edwardsville in 1997. Early in life she taught school in Cowgill and several community schools. She was a Methodist, and a member of the church women's group. Her main interests were her family, friends and church, and she always had cookies and sandwiches handy for food and fellowship.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Homer Berning, in 2000; and a great-granddaughter, Jamie Lee Bard. She is survived by three sons, Tom Berning and his wife, Judy, Bonner Springs; J.R. Berning and his wife, Sharon, of Shawnee; and Pat Berning and his wife, DeAnne, Bonner Springs; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
