Meetings to focus on bond issue
A committee of Basehor and Linwood residents organized to promote the upcoming school district bond issue has finalized a schedule of public meetings throughout the months leading up to election day.
According to a schedule released by bond issue chairman Wynne Coleman, the committee will host a bond kick-off rally at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, at Basehor-Linwood High School.
Public meetings will take place less than a week later, on Sept. 26 and 27. The meetings will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will be heard inside Linwood and Basehor elementary schools, respectively.
Another public meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, at Glenwood Ridge Elementary School.
Next month, the bond issue committee will speak before parents and students of Basehor-Linwood Middle School and Basehor-Linwood High School. The middle school meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13 and the high school meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17.
The bond issue committee has at least half a dozen speaking engagements before various Basehor and Linwood community organizations in between the public meetings at each of the schools.
The bond issue, a $22.9 million measure for new school construction, will be posed to voters Nov. 1.
If approved, it would pay for renovations and improvements at every school in the district -- except for Basehor-Linwood High School -- and a new elementary school on 15 acres of vacant land west of the high school.
