Basehor library closes for repairs; set to reopen today
The Basehor Community Library closed its doors to patrons Tuesday and Wednesday so repairs could be made to a potentially hazardous mold problem.
After heavy rains last month, water leaked into the library and seeped behind a bookcase in the library's "easy reader" section. Upon inspection, library officials found a mold patch, approximately the size of a basketball, on a wall behind a shelf.
The section of the library has been sealed and closed to the public until the problem area can be fixed.
The library board of trustees voted Wednesday, Sept. 14 to close the library while repairs were being made. Steamatic, a nationwide company, has been hired to make repairs to the mold area.
Library officials have targeted Thursday as a re-opening date.
Protocol for repairing the mold area calls for removing the damaged area and replacing it. itompany representatives told library officials.
