Suspicious item stops fort traffic
A suspicious item found in a vehicle entering Fort Leavenworth caused security personnel to shut down the post's main entrance earlier this week.
Janey Wray of the fort's Public Information Office said security workers checking vehicles entering the fort ordered the shutdown about 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1. The security workers were worried about an item they found in a glove box of an entering vehicle. An ensuing investigation of the item led them to allow the vehicle to pass into the fort; traffic in and out of the post resumed as normal after about 15 minutes, Wray said.
The item turned out to be a part of a trailer hitch wrapped in wires.
