USM’s OutFront to offer two new courses for adults
The University of Saint Mary OutFront Adult Basic Education Center has reopened for the academic year with two new classes added to the existing Adult Basic Education and English as a Second Language programs.
OutFront is offering a new "GED Fast Track," which will be taught in two sessions for three consecutive Fridays, with testing on Saturdays. The course is described as a fast-paced, intensive-preparation class for learners who qualify during orientation. The General Educational Develop-ment diploma is a high school equivalency diploma. GED preparation also will be offered throughout the year during regular sessions.
Citizenship classes will be on Thursday evenings for students studying English as a second language. This class will focus exclusively on the skills needed to pass the U.S. Citizenship test.
Enrollment for all courses will be conducted through Aug. 24. Orientation will be 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. or 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 28-31 for Adult Basic Education/GED classes and English as a second language classes. Orientation is held from either
Learners must sign up in person at the center located at 111 Delaware, Suite A, Leavenworth. People under the age of 18 must have a disclaimer or waiver of attendance form and schedule an interview with the director and a legal guardian prior to attending orientation. Learners 18 years old or older may sign up in person until 1 p.m. Aug. 24. There is a $15 materials fee.
The center is open from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
