Lions ranked No. 24 in preseason football poll

August 22, 2006

After winning 17 games and two district titles the past two seasons, expectations of the Lansing High football program are high.

That much is clear as Lansing garnered a No. 24 ranking in the Metro Sports Super 25 preseason poll. The ranking comes despite the fact that the Lions graduated 19 seniors from last year's club. The also return five starters on defense and just three offensive starters.

Still, if history is any indication, the Metro Sports rankings have been good to the Lions in the past. They opened the 2005 season ranked No. 25 and went on have the most successful season in school history with a 9-2 record, a share of the Kaw Valley League crown and another district title.

Lansing is one of two KVL teams in the poll. Tonganoxie, is ranked No. 25. LHS and THS will square off in the season-opener at 7 p.m. Sept. 1 at Tonganoxie.

The Metro Sports poll includes teams from the greater Kansas City area in both Kansas and Missouri.
