LHS basketball opens KVL action today

After a rocky start to the season last weekend at the Bonner Springs Metro Prep Tipoff Classic, the Lansing High boys and girls basketball teams return to the hardwood today at Basehor-Linwood in the Kaw Valley League opener for both schools.

The Lansing boys went 0-3 at the tournament. Meanwhile, Basehor's boys went 1-2 at the Emporia Tournament. They beat Bellevue (Neb.) in the seventh-place game, 60-49. Their losses were to Junction City (57-45) and Olathe East (58-57).

The LHS girls posted a 1-2 record at the Bonner Tournament and placed seventh. Their lone victory was a 61-42 decision against Atchison. Lansing junior Amanda Darrow scored a career-high 18 points in the victory. The Basehor girls went 2-1 at the Iola Tournament and placed second. The lost to Parsons in the title game in double-overtime, 32-29.

Today's schedule of games is:

4 p.m. - JV girls.

4:30 p.m. - JV boys.

5:30 p.m. - Freshman boys.

6 p.m. - Varsity girls.

7:30 p.m. - Varsity boys.
