Jacob M. Moppin

— Services for Jacob M. "Smugs" "Drag" Moppin, 86, Leavenworth, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 15, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Leavenworth. Burial will be in Mount Muncie Cemetery, Lansing.

Mr. Moppin died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006.

He was born June 18, 1920, in Platte Co., Mo., the son of Jess and Eva (Merrit) Moppin.

Mr. Moppin served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps for four years during World War II.

He worked for the Missouri Valley Ship Yard, and later for the Lansing Correctional Facility, from which he was retired. After his retirement, he worked for Howard Wilson School, Leavenworth.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where he had served as trustee for many years. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 55, and a volunteer at St. John's Hospital.

On June 5, 1950, he married Martha E. Matzeder in Leavenworth. She survives.

Other survivors include three grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a sister, Geraldine Sacks; and extended family Vie and Teresa Minoglio, Bonnie Yantze, and Michelle and Mina.

A daughter, Deborah Minoglio, died June 5, 1993.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, at Davis Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth.

The family suggests memorials to Trinity United Methodist Church, sent in care of the funeral chapel, 531 Shawnee St., Leavenworth 66048.
