Matilda J. Mitchell McCollum
Services for Matilda J. Mitchell McCollum, 94, Leavenworth, were Saturday, Dec. 16, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Leavenworth, with burial in Mount Muncie Cemetery, Lansing.
Mrs. McCollum died Monday, Dec. 11, 2006, at Colonial Manor in Lansing.
She was born April 30, 1912, in Ashland, Va., the daughter of Walter M. and Matilda R. (Midyette) Jones.
Mrs. McCollum was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother.
She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and Chapter EN-P.E.O.; she volunteered at Cushing Memorial Hospital and was an active volunteer for numerous organizations in the community.
She married John F. "Jack" Mitchell, who died July 11, 1987. On Dec. 30, 1988, she married Orville E. McCollum. He survives.
Other survivors include four daughters, Matilda Midyette "Midge" Mitchell Bigler, Anna, Ill., Mary Virginia "Ginna" Mitchell Harbison, Durango, Colo., and Nancy Ann Mitchell Martin, Leavenworth; a son, John F. Mitchell Jr., Leavenworth; a brother, Meade Addison Jones, Walkerton, Va.; 14 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
A grandchild died earlier.
The family suggests memorials to St. Paul's Episcopal Church or Cushing Memorial Hospital, sent in care of Davis Funeral Chapel, 531 Shawnee St., Leavenworth 66048.
