The Navy recently selected Cmdr. Jeff Franssen, Leavenworth, for a new reserve assignment with its National Command and Senior Officer Screening Board.
Beginning Jan. 1, Franssen will be assigned as a drilling reservist for two years with COMTHIRDFLT Headquarters, Joint Force Maritime Component Command at Naval Base Point Loma, San Diego. He will be responsible for providing integrated intelligence support to fleet operations and training, maritime homeland defense and sea trials/experimentation.
Franssen is a Navy Reserve intelligence officer assigned as a drilling reservist to U.S. Strategic Command at Offutt Air Force Base, Neb. As assistant Operations Department Head and Targeting Branch Manager for NR STRATJIC 0118, he supervises 30 Navy and Air Force reservists providing target development and evaluation in direct support of Global Strike operations.
His awards include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, bronze oak leaf cluster, for his support to Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Franssen enlisted in the Navy Reserve in 1984 and was commissioned in 1988. He is a 1981 graduate of the University of Nebraska with a bachelor's degree in agriculture. He is employed at Fort Leavenworth as an operations research analyst and liaison for the Army Space and Missile Defense Command at Huntsville, Ala.
He and his wife, Sherri, have two sons, Jacob, 12, and Lucas, 5.
