Services for Bill J. Bailiff, 81, Lansing, were Saturday, Jan. 28, at R.L. Leintz Funeral Home, Leavenworth. Burial was at Mount Muncie Cemetery, Lansing.
Mr. Bailiff died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006, at St. John Hospital, Leavenworth.
He was born April 18, 1924, in Hollywood, Ark., the son of Bill J. Sr., and Elizabeth Avant (Christopher) Bailiff. Mr. Bailiff was raised in Texas.
He served in World War II in the 112th Regimental Combat Team in the Pacific theater from 1943-1945. He then worked in the aircraft industry as a sheet metal mechanic in Wichita until 1965, when he moved to Lansing and continued his craftsmanship at Fort Leavenworth's Sherman Field. He retired from U.S. government service in 1986.
Mr. Bailiff was a Mason for 44 years, and a current member of the King Solomon Lodge. He had been a member of the Leavenworth Baptist Church since 1965.
He married Rosey Christina Fritzler in July 1950 in Wichita. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Raymond and Aaron "Dale"; a daughter, Phyllis White; a sister, Edna Maxine Shockey; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; a great-grandson; and a stepgreat-grandson.
The family suggests memorials to Children's Mercy Hospital, sent in care of the funeral home, 4701 Tenth Ave., Leavenworth 66048.
