High school students to perform

February 9, 2006

The gold ran out; the crooks ran in.

That's the premise of the drama, "Curse You, Otis Crummy ... or A Rip in Old Calico," which will be presented Friday and Saturday evenings at Basehor-Linwood High School.

The drama is set in "Crummy Home of the Homeless," a former Wild West gambling establishment in Calico, CA.

Freshmen Nate Hopkins is cast in the role as Otis Crummy, a villain. Other lead roles include senior Andy Radcliff as Big Slim, the protagonist; junior Melissa Winters as heroine Cheerful Goodykoontz; and Lauren McDonnell as Tangerine Souffle, a former saloon hostess.

"Last year's production of 'Anne Frank and Me' had a serious message, so this year I decided to lighten the show up a bit," BLHS drama teacher Rebecca Knowles said. "In true melodrama fashion, the show will also contain an olio (and) a short variety/comedy show, which will set the tone for the evening."

Showtime is 7 p.m.

Tickets are $4 for adults and $3 for children and students. For more information, contact Knowles at (913) 724-2266.
