Kindergarten roundup to begin in Basehor-Linwood

February 23, 2006

Kindergarten Roundup is the beginning of an educational journey -- a big step for both children and their parents.

Kindergarten Roundup is scheduled at all three Basehor-Linwood elementary schools during March and April.

For the three days of roundup, kindergarten students in the 2006-2007 kindergarten class will spend three two-hour sessions at the school.

The goals for roundup serve three main purposes. The staff want to give the children a taste of what to expect when they come to school in the fall, to learn as much as possible about the children to help in planning next year's kindergarten program, and to begin the paperwork requirements that must be in place.

Children will spend most of the three two-hour sessions in regular kindergarten activities such as: singing, drawing, listening to and telling stories.

The other time is spent in a rotation to various stations that screen for hearing and vision performance, gross and fine motor control, speech and language development, and general knowledge background.

Children who will be 5 years old on or before Aug. 31, 2006, are eligible to attend kindergarten in the fall and are asked to participate in the three-day roundup.

Please contact your respective elementary school to identify potential kindergartners.
