LHS girls ranked No. 10

February 28, 2006

The Lansing High girls basketball team returned to the state rankings when the final Kansas Basketball Coaches Association Class 5A poll of the season was released Monday night.

The Lions (14-6) returned to the poll in the No. 10 position. They spent two weeks ranked No. 9 earlier in the season before back-to-back losses bounced them from the poll. They also are receiving votes in the Topeka Capital-Journal rankings this week.

Also of note, the Tonganoxie girls climbed to the No. 1 position in both polls for Class 4A. The Chieftains improved their record to 20-1 Monday night when they hammered Piper, 72-32, in their substate opener.

Lansing opens substate play at 7 p.m. Thursday at home against Mill Valley. The winner of Thursday's game will play the winner of Shawnee Heights and Highland Park Saturday night at Highland Park.
