Twitchel, Team Kansas to resume All-Star Softball Series today
Overland Park Lansing High senior Nichole Twitchel is one of 14 players from Kansas participating in the MO-KAN All-Star Softball Series. The best of three series featuring all-star squads from Kansas and Missouri was scheduled to be played Monday at the Blue Valley District Activities Complex at Blue Valley Northwest High School. Inclement weather halted action after the first inning, however. The series will resume at 6 p.m. today. Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children 10 and younger.
Kansas leads the all-time series 4-1.
After one and a half innings of action, Team Kansas held a 1-0 lead. Shawnee Mission Northwest's Amanda Jobe smashed a leadoff single in the bottom of the first inning. She scored when Lawrence High senior Drew Huff laced a base hit to left field.
Twitchel had not played at the time of the postponement. She was expected to catch in game two and possibly be a pinch hitter in game one.
Twitchel isn't the only Kaw Valley League player participating for Team Kansas. Basehor-Linwood senior pitcher Kristal Holland also is on the team.
Other members of Team Kansas are Carrie Brand and Courtney Wray of St. Thomas Aquinas, Amber Freeman and Jobe of SM Northwest, Alex Hupp and Ashlyn Smith of Olathe East, Melissa Grieb of Olathe South, Lindsay Williams of Blue Valley Northwest, Danielle Hodge of Shawnee Mission West, Tori Rogers of Blue Valley West and Christy Fogleman of Olathe Northwest.
