Robert Ellis Adams
Services for U.S. Army retired Sgt. Robert Ellis Adams, 83, of Emporia, formerly of Leavenworth, were Monday, June 26, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Leavenworth. Burial with full military honors was in Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery, Leavenworth.
Mr. Adams died Friday, June 23, 2006, at Newman Regional Health Hospital in Emporia.
He was born Sept. 26, 1922, in Prescott, Ark., the son of Wilson and Leona (Myers) Adams.
Mr. Adams was raised in Prescott, entered the army in 1939 and lived in various cities throughout the United States and countries throughout the world. He had served in World War II and the Korean War. After his military service retired to Leavenworth and worked at Fort Leavenworth in various positions. He and moved to Emporia in 2003.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Leavenworth and the Eagles.
He married Cora J. (Weaver) Lignitz on Jan. 21, 1996, in Topeka. She survives of the home. His first wife, Dorothy Marie Schlattman, who he married on June 2, 1945, died Jan. 7, 1989.
Other survivors include three daughters, Gay Lynn Savino, Lansing, Rene D. Bryant, Ozawkie, and Merrilee B. Wilburn, Lyndon; two sons, Stephen E., Easton, and Kevin J., Potomac Md.; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother Wilson M., Jacksonville, Fla.; and sister, Oreon A. Weise, Pensacola, Fla.
Twin grandchildren preceded him in death.
