Spring seasons to start in style
‘Meet the Bobcats’ set for March 13
The spring sports version of "Meet the Bobcats" is set for Monday, March 13. Students participating in boys golf, girls soccer, track and field, softball and baseball will be introduced.
Spring sports athletes can get dinner at 6:30 p.m. Monday, while the concession stand will be open for others. The introductions will start at 7 p.m. in the gym, followed by parents' meetings.
The girls soccer squad will kick off the spring season with a home game against Cair Paravel on Thursday, March 16 at 4:30 p.m. It will be Kevin Vincent's first game as head coach of the girls team. The boys golf team, coached by Chad Harvey, will begin competition on Monday, March 20 at the Mill Valley Invitational. The meet will take place at the Shawnee Country Club and will begin at 1 p.m.
The other three sports won't get underway until March 29-31. The baseball and softball teams will both have their season openers on March 29. The baseball team will be at home against Bishop Ward, while the softball team will play a double-header at Blue Valley Northwest. It is Dave Svoboda's third season as head baseball coach, while longtime softball coach Susan Mayberry's team is coming off a trip to the state tournament.
The spring season will be in full swing when the track and field squad has its first competition on March 31. The team, coached by Steve Hopkins, will be at Baldwin for the Baldwin Invitational, starting at 3:30 p.m.
