Leo ‘Hobby’ Robert Banks

— Services for Leo "Hobby" Robert Banks, 81, Leavenworth, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 18, at High Prairie Church. Burial will be at Mount Muncie Cemetery.

Mr. Banks died Friday, March 10, 2006, at his home.

He was born July 8, 1924, in Leavenworth, the son of Leo W. and Katherine (Ehart) banks.

Mr. Banks graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1941, then served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II. After his military service, he went was employed by J.C. Penney Co., where he worked in display and advertising. He retired after 35 years.

He also was a distributor for Watkins Co., and enjoyed growing and selling Christmas trees.

Mr. Banks was a longtime member of High Prairie Church, Leavenworth, Kiwanis Club of Leavenworth, Kansas City Bottle Club and a 60-year member of Masonic Lodge No. 10 A.F. and A.M.

He married Dora L. Wheeler on June 14, 1949, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Janet Lee Allen and June Marie Johnson, both of Leavenworth; two sons, Jan "J.R." and Jerry Lynn, both of Olathe; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Firends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, March 17, at the church, 26480 187th St., Leavenworth.

The family suggests memorials to the church, sent in care of Davis Funeral Chapel, 531 Shawnee St., Leavenworth 66048.
