Music students earn top ratings

Two Lansing High School singing groups, two solo vocalists and four musicians snagged top ratings at the Class 5A state music festival last week.

The choir and band students performed Saturday, April 29, at the music festival in Newton.

Individuals receiving 1 ratings were Adam New on snare drum, Brandon Mills for a vocal solo and Elizabeth Cristiano for a vocal solo. The trumpet trio of Sean Wooley, Alex Martinez and Phillip Johnson; Sound Spectrum choir; and Sound Spectrum men's ensemble also received 1 ratings.

Several students received a 2 rating, including Edwin Fluevog on trombone; Matt Fischer on saxophone; and Rachelle Moss, Matt Fischer and Katie Adams for vocal solos. Groups receiving a 2 rating were the brass quintet of Wooley, Martinez, Johnson, Fluevog and Guy Gardner; Sound Spectrum ladies' ensemble; Concert Choir men's ensemble; and Freshmen Select ladies' ensemble.

Two Lansing students received 3 ratings, Gary Cotton on saxophone and Ricky Walters on clarinet.
