Mayor’s Christmas Tree under way

November 16, 2006

The City of Lansing, in conjunction with Lansing PRIDE, again is sponsoring the Mayor's Christmas Tree.

Every year the event benefits needy families in the community with toys for children and food certificates for their families.

An Angel Tree will go up in the lobby of Lansing City Hall, 800 First Terrace, with tags for each child's gift wish. Donors may pick up a tag, purchase the gift and then return it to City Hall by Monday, Dec. 11.

In addition to the child's gift wish, boxes of food and gift certificates for groceries are given to each family.

Private individuals, businesses and civic organizations are encouraged to donate to this event. Monetary donations also will be accepted. All donations should be brought to Lansing City Hall, 800 First Terrace, by Monday, Dec. 11.

The Lansing Community Library, located at 108 S. Second St., will sponsor "Deck the Halls with Books" for the children also. Anyone interested in participating may pick up a tag, purchase a book for the appropriate age and gender, and return the book to the library by Saturday, Dec. 9.
