Police continue search for suspect
Police continue to search for a 25-year-old Basehor man who is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and aggravated assault.
Kirtis Shane Davenport also faces a misdemeanor charge of criminal damage to property.
The charges stem from an incident on Nov. 12, when Davenport allegedly kicked in the door to the apartment he shares with his pregnant wife -- waving a handgun.
In a conversation later with a police detective, Davenport admitted kicking in the door and having the gun. Horner said Davenport, who has served six years in prison, told the detective he wasn't going back to jail.
Horner said Tuesday that police believe Davenport is in the Kansas City area.
He urged anyone who has information about Davenport to call Basehor police, (913) 724-1313, or anyone who sees him to call 911.
"The thing about the police: We have nothing but time," Horner said. "Eventually, he's going to surface or mess up and his name is going to be run through the computer. Or some citizen is going to call us. And then the clock is going to strike midnight."
In other police matters, officers were called late Sunday to a Basehor home, where a local man apparently was preventing members of his family from leaving their home. "We felt it was a medical issue," Horner said. Police subdued the man, who was taken to an area hospital.
