Basehor-Linwood schools closed on Friday; basketball games cancelled, too
Winter storm forces cancellation of classes for second day
A winter storm has forced the cancellation of Friday classes in the Basehor-Linwood school district.
Basehor-Linwood was among many area school districts to call off school, including Tonganoxie, because of dangerous conditions.
The district did not hold classes on Thursday either because of the storm.
As a result of Friday's school closings, the BLHS boys and girls basketball teams will have to wait to open the 2006-2007 season.
The Bobcats were scheduled to travel to Tonganoxie on Friday night, but the games have been cancelled because of the weather.
Tonganoxie High School athletics director Brandon Parker said a make-up date has not been set.
"I don't know whether we'll sneak it in before Christmas or wait until after," Parker said.
Both BLHS teams will now open their seasons in separate tournaments next week.
The Lady 'Cats will participate in the Iola Tournament, which will run from Dec. 4 to Dec. 8 and the boys will travel to Emporia to compete in the Emporia Invitational, which will run from Dec. 7-9.
Check Thursday's Sentinel for more on both tournaments.
