October 5, 2006

The Lansing Middle School eighth-grade volleyball teams closed out their home slate in style Thursday as the A and White teams both defeated Lexington Trail at the LMS gymnasium.

The White team played first and was shaky in game one as it lost, 11-25. After that, however, the Lions regrouped and defended their home court in dominating fashion. Sparked by Taylor Williams' steady serving, they won long volleys, played as a team and won game two, 25-21, and then took game three, 15-8, to take the match in three games.

The solid play continued when the A team took the court. Lansing won the first two games, 25-19 and 25-16, to secure the match before being outscored 15-12 in game three.

The eighth-graders were back in action Monday against Xavier and Tonganoxie at Tonganoxie Middle School. Lansing A posted a 2-0 record as it beat Tonganoxie, 25-14, 24-26, 17-15, and then defeated Xavier, 25-16, 25-17. Lansing White also beat Tonganoxie, 25-14, 28-26, 12-15. Lansing Red also defeated TMS, 17-25, 25-23, 15-3.
