Velma Nadine Meyer

Services for Velma Nadine Meyer, 97, Leavenworth, were Wednesday, Sept. 27, at St. Martin Lutheran Church, Kansas City, Kan. Burial was at Mount Muncie Cemetery, Lansing.

Mrs. Meyer died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006.

She was born May 5, 1909, in Muskogee, Okla., the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Mayme) Trower Meyer. She grew up on a farm south of Lansing.

Mrs. Meyer was a farm wife on a dairy farm during the Depression, before electricity and running water.

She was a member of St. Martin Lutheran Church and was active in church activities. She taught Sunday school and Bible classes. She was also active in school and social activities. She retired with her husband to Arizona in 1968, where she lived for 23 years, enjoying camping, fishing and other activities.

She married John Alfred "Al" Meyer on Nov. 27, 1928. He and an infant son, Eugene Meyer, died earlier.

Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Treff, Basehor, and Helen Desmond, Moreno Valley, Calif.; two brothers, Ronald and Sonny Meyer; a sister, Johanna Moore; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters.

The family suggests donations to St. Martin Lutheran Church, 13849 Hollingsworth Rd., Kansas City, KS 66109, or to a charity of your choice.

Davis Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth, handled arrangements.
