Kaw Valley Football Report: Week Six

October 6, 2006

Thanks to a major assist from Piper, the Tonganoxie Chieftains moved one step closer to wrapping up the Kaw Valley League championship Friday night.

Tonganoxie remained unbeaten by stomping Basehor-Linwood, 35-0. Meanwhile, Piper handed Perry-Lecompton its first loss of the year, 24-14. Perry now is in a second-place tie with Mill Valley. The Jaguars used a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns to squeak past Lansing, 14-0. Another league mover is Immaculata. The Raiders pulled out a 7-6 victory over the Bonner Springs Braves and ran their winning streak to three games.

The KVL schools begin district play next week, but one of those district matchups has implications on the league crown. Tonganoxie and Perry play at 7 p.m. Friday at Perry. The Chieftains already have secured a share of the league crown, but a victory by the Kaws could force a tri-championship with THS, Perry and Mill Valley. Tonganoxie, Perry and Lansing were tri-champs in 2005. Mill Valley has concluded its league games and will face St. Thomas Aquinas, Bishop Miege and KC-Harmon in its district.
