BLHS marching band to perform at festival
The Basehor-Linwood High School marching band will be among student musicians from across Kansas performing during Kansas State University's Central States Marching Festival.
The festival, slated for Oct. 21, will feature more than 20 high school bands, which will perform, receive ratings and attend clinics and critique sessions.
Each band will perform before a panel of judges, which assigns ratings based on characteristics like showmanship, coordination and musicality.
The bands also will have mini clinics based on videos of their performances. Panel members will point out strengths and offer suggestions for improvement. Bands also have the opportunity to attend a clinic with KSU Marching Band members and staff and to see a special performance by the band that evening.
The high school bands begin performing at 1:15 p.m., followed by the K-State Marching Band at 7:15 p.m. The event closes with an awards ceremony at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults; $3 for junior and senior high school students, and adults 60 and older; and free for children 10 and younger.
Area high school bands scheduled to attend and their performance times include: Basehor-Linwood, 2 p.m.; De Soto, 3 p.m.; Lansing, 2:45 p.m.; and Leavenworth, 6:15 p.m.
