Frances C. Townsend

Mass of Christian Burial for Frances C. Townsend, 90, Lansing, will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 16, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Mrs. Townsend died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home of Lansing.

She was born Aug. 30, 1916, in St. Joseph, Mo., the daughter of Joseph M. and Helena (Damgard) Massing.

Mrs. Townsend was a bookkeeper for Stuppy Floral Co. in Kansas City, Mo., and Topeka for more than 25 years.

She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Young at Hearts, Altar Society, Legion of Mary, Friendship Club, St. John Hospital Guild, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliaries and Lansing Community Club.

She married James H. Townsend on Sept. 12, 1934, in St. Joseph, Mo. He died Oct. 15, 1996.

Survivors include two daughters, Rosalie A. Stull, Lansing, and Mary Kaye Pedziwater, Leavenworth; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, at Belden-Sexton-Sumpter Funeral Home, Leavenworth, where the family will receive friends from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 4 p.m.

The family suggests memorials to the Leukemia Society, Alzheimer's Society or for Masses at the church. Memorials may be sent in care of the funeral home, 500 Oak St., Leavenworth 66048.
