LHS soccer ends season with 4-1 loss to Mill Valley
Shawnee Despite dominating the final 40 minutes Thursday, the Lansing High boys soccer team was unable to overcome a three-goal deficit in its Class 5A regional championship game at Mill Valley.
The final result - a 4-1 loss - ended Lansing's season one step short of making a return trip to the state quarterfinals.
Mill Valley junior forward Spencer Nash capitalized on a pair of defensive breakdowns and netted two goals in the first 11 minutes of the game. Jaguar senior Josh Grimes pushed the lead to 3-0 in the 19th minute.
Lansing (13-4-1) scored just 3:37 into the second half when senior Andy Dick buried a shot off a pass from senior Stepan Herout. The Lions had numerous other scoring opportunities the rest of the half, but they were unable to convert.
Nash scored the game's final goal in the 73rd minute.
The game was the final one for LHS seniors Dick, Herout, Alex Burton, Josh Robinson, Tylor McNeill, John Sebes, Kyle Buehler, Malte Sandhove, Justin Nickum, Geoff Fowles and Nate Markovetz.
