Services have been announced for a Leavenworth soldier killed last week in Iraq.

Belden-Sexton-Sumpter Funeral Chapels said services for Army Cpl. David M. Unger, 21, will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at the Fort Leavenworth Main Post Chapel. Burial with full military honors will follow at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery.

Cpl. Unger died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006, in Baghdad from injuries suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle, the Department of Defense said. He was one of four soldiers killed in the incident.

The others killed were: 2nd Lt. Christopher E. Loudon, 23, of Brockport, Pa.; Cpl. Russell G. Culbertson III, 22, of Amity, Pa.; and Spc. Joseph C. Dumas Jr., 25, of New Orleans.

The soldiers were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Cpl. Unger is the first soldier from the Leavenworth-Lansing area to die in the Iraq war.

Those attending his funeral are asked to arrive early with identification for a front-gate security check.

A visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, at Leavenworth High School gymnasium. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, at the funeral chapel.
