August “Auggie” Bergman

Services for August "Auggie" John Bergman, 89, Lansing, were Wednesday, Sept. 13, at Davis Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth. Burial was at Leavenworth National Cemetery.

Mr. Bergman died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2006, surrounded by his family at his home.

He was born Nov. 29, 1922, in Leavenworth, the son of William and Helen (Huber) Bergman. He attended a local Catholic school.

Mr. Bergman joined the U.S. Army in 1940 at Fort Leavenworth and served in the Pacific theater in World War II. After the war, he spent the greater part of his adult life working for local painting and decorating companies. He retired from the Leavenworth school district in May 1988.

Survivors include his wife, Dixie, of the home; four sons, August "John" II and Fred, both of Leavenworth, and William and Robert, both of Lansing; three daughters, Christina Hill, Weston, Mo., Sandi Jerrit, Woodstock Ga., and Lori Filbert, Lansing; 15 grandchildren; and nine greatgrandchildren.

His first wife, Mildred Malec, and a daughter, Barbara Crooks, died earlier.
