Letter: Boys learned how to win

September 21, 2006

To the Editor:

That "Certain Senior" column in last week's Basehor Sentinel paper was excellent. It truly described this year's winning Soccer Team. The article was so on target and so well written. Thanks, Andy, for your comments. It was disappointing to see the best week -- probably ever -- in BLHS soccer history relegated to page 4 or 5 in the sports section, but the front page column was great. I know, Cross Country did get a first place trophy-how exciting and congrats to them, I guess even though the football team lost 42-8, they still warrant below the fold on the front page -- after all, it is football. I know soccer is still a growing sport here in the United States, but it sure would be nice for these boyso get the coverage and support that they deserve.

So, rather than complain, I'd really like to challengeou, Basehor students and the community,o step out and see what you are missing.his year's boys soccer teamas a record of 5-1. They lost only to league rival andA school Mill Valley. Theyeat the defending KVL champions, the Lansing Lions, 3-2, coming from a 2-0 deficit in the first half. This states volumes for this team, as they showedhe drive to come back from behind and win. I remember a new coach to our school stating that our high school boys justdon't know how to win" -- I think they are learning.

So parents, students, community friends. Please come support your Bobcat soccer team. The best news Ieard from that "certain senior, not to beentioned" is: "We just need to keep building and getting better so we peak at tournament time."

The Dazzlers perform and the JV Cheerleaders cheer at home games.pecial thanks to both of these squads. We are giving away Basehor-Linwood T-shirts to student fans at each home game. Go to the BLHS Web page for current times and schedules. All the team stats are also there. Go to http://www.usd458.org/blhsboysSoccer/

It is very exciting to see a boys team at BLHS have a winning record -- 5-1, no less. I'm not sure if this has ever happened since our family began watching high school sports. (My apologies if I'm wrong.) Future games include: Sept. 25 -- Piper at BLHS; Sept. 28 at Tonganoxie, Oct. 2 at Bonner Springs, Oct. 5 Lansing at BLHS, Oct. 9 at Perry, Oct. 12 at Immac (St. Mary's College field), Oct. 17 Mawr Hill at BLHS and Oct. 19 Bonner Springs at BLHS. Come watch. They will love it!

A proud mom and BLHS soccer fan.
