Bonner Tournament postponed until Friday
Bonner Springs The winter snowstorm that is making driving slippery this afternoon has postponed the Bonner Springs Metro Classic Basketball tournament until Friday.
Initially, the tournament was to begin today.
Savannah High School, a team from northern Missouri, was unable to make the trip and officials postponed the tournament, Bonner Springs athletic director Garold Baker said.
The first round of the tournament will be played Friday.
The Bishop Miege boys will face Kansas City East Christian Academy at 3 p.m. this afternoon followed by Seaman and Lansing at about 4:45 and Lawrence Free State against Shawnee Heights at 6:30 p.m. The Braves get the nightcap against the Redmen at their scheduled 8:15 p.m. tip.
If Bonner Springs beats Atchison in round one, it would move on to play the winner of Lawrence and Shawnee Heights at 8:15 p.m. Saturday in the YMCA gym. A Bonner Springs loss would put them against the loser of that game at 4:45 p.m. in the YMCA gym on Saturday.
In the girls bracket, Savannah opens against Lansing at 3 p.m. Saturday in the YMCA gym followed by Atchison-Miege at 4:45, Bonner-Seaman at 6:30 and then Lawrence Free State-Shawnee Heights in the finale at 8:15 p.m.
If the Bonner girls win game one, they will play the winner of Lawrence Free State-Heights at 8:15 p.m. Friday in Bonner Springs High School gym. A loss pits them against the loser at a 4:45 p.m. tip in the high school gym.
The date of play for the third round of the tournament is being finalized, Baker said.
