December 13, 2007

The Lansing High volleyball team proved it was one of the most dominant teams in the state this year when it placed fourth at the Class 5A state tournament.

Now that the season is over, proof is pouring in that numerous LHS players were among the most dangerous performers in the state - in any classification. That proof is in the numbers. According to Kansas Volleyball Association statistics, Senior Kristen Jensen, junior Brittney Lang and sophomore Lisa Angello landed their names on two statistical rankings apiece.

Jensen finished the year ranked eighth in the state with a 98.43 serving percentage while attempting 446 total serves. In addition, her total of 613 assists was the 15th-highest in the state.

Lang was fourth in the state in hitting efficiency with a .462 hitting percentage. She had 599 total attempts, 341 kills and just 64 errors. Lang also was 18th in the state in stuff blocks. She had 99 solo blocks and 53 block assists for a total of 152.

Angello was the state leader in hitting efficiency with a .480 hitting percentage. She had 267 kills on 487 attempts and made just 33 errors.

When not spiking the ball, Angello made plenty of noise with her lethal jump serve. She pounded it for 92 aces this year, the ninth-highest total in the state.

The Kaw Valley League had other representation on the state stat leader boards thanks to players from Tonganoxie and Mill Valley.

For Tonganoxie, Hannah Herrstrom was third in the state with 496 digs; Sami Franiuk was 16th in aces with 72; Shannon Carlin was 11th in stuff blocks with 187; Liz Baska was 14th with 176 stuff blocks; Chrissie Jeannin was seventh with 773 assists; and Tracie Hileman was 15th with 356 digs and 19th in hitting efficiency with a .366 hitting percentage.

For Mill Valley, Kaitlen Stacy was 10th in passing efficiency; Mollie Moravac was 11th in passing efficiency; Jennifer Volmer was 17th in passing efficiency; Jana Boss was 10th with 773 assists; and Morgan Oshinski was 16th in hitting efficiency with a .382 hitting percentage.
