Chrisman enjoys return to court
December 19, 2007
It took Michelle Chrisman’s right knee six months to heal from a torn ACL she suffered in the middle of last season. During Basehor-Linwood’s season opening home victory over Tonganoxie, the realization of the accomplishment hit her. After countless hours spent rehabbing an injured knee with the goal of returning to play basketball, Chrisman was back on the same court that the injury had occurred. Tears welled in her eyes. Since the injury, her view of the game has changed. So, too, has her outlook on life. Basehor-Linwood powers by Mill Valley in second half for league victory
December 19, 2007
Basehor-Linwood High School boys basketball players dominated the second half against Mill Valley on Friday night. After going 0-3 in a basketball tournament in Emporia two weeks ago, the Bobcats outscored Mill Valley 38-12 in the final two quarters of play and won the game 58-32. “This was a big morale boost for us,” coach Mike McBride said. “We needed this game and for the rest of the year we ought to at least play hard every night. It doesn’t matter if we win or lose. If you give that kind of effort we will be ready for the state tournament.” The Bobcats shut Mill Valley’s offense down in the second half. Mill Valley scored just three points in the fourth quarter of play. “We weren’t very good offensively,” Jaguars coach Justin Bogart said. “I will take some responsibility for that. Caleb Smith led the Jaguars with 19 points in the game. The team’s other players scored a combined 13 points.

Make wise firewood choices this season
December 19, 2007 in print edition on A2
I hope everyone is doing well after our first major bout with Mother Nature this winter. During my time without electricity last week, I started thinking about the necessity of a good fireplace and a supply of high quality firewood to go with it. Luckily a lot of people in this area have the luxury of a fireplace or wood burning stove to use during power outages, or just to cut heating costs. I hope this article helps everyone with the knowledge and details of firewood use in those fireplaces and wood stoves
