STORIES OF THE YEAR: Lions are football playoff regulars

December 27, 2007

Here's a familiar sight: The Lansing High football team is playoff-bound.

For the fourth straight year the Lions earned a trip to the state playoffs - the first two in Class 4A and the last two in Class 5A. They accomplished that feat this season by going 3-0 in District 1.

Lansing almost made its first appearance in the state quarterfinals, but a touchdown in the final seconds allowed Gardner-Edgerton to escape Frank Graham Field with a 21-14 victory in the first round of the playoffs.

In addition to the playoff appearance, the Lions won a Kaw Valley League championship and finished the season with an 8-2 record. Not bad considering they had to replace their starting quarterback, tailback and fullback from last year.

For their efforts, nine Lions earned All-KVL honors and four were named All-State.
