Junior varsity boys cap busy week with 53-37 victory over Basehor
For three quarters Friday night the Lansing High junior varsity boys basketball team manhandled Basehor-Linwood.
The one hiccup came in the second quarter, but it proved inconsequential as Lansing rolled to a 53-37 victory at the Lansing Intermediate School gym.
The win improved Lansing's record to 9-1 this season and 4-0 for the week. LHS also defeated Piper in Kaw Valley League action on Tuesday and picked up victories Monday and Wednesday to win the Lansing JV Tournament.
Lansing showed no signs of weary legs during the first quarter. Six different players scored as the Lions surged to a 16-4 lead. In the second quarter, however, fatigue finally seemed to play a factor. The Bobcats exploded on a 14-0 run and took a two-point lead before P.J. Sigle's backdoor layup ended a four-minute scoring drought. The teams traded baskets for the rest of the quarter and the Bobcats took a 25-24 lead into halftime.
Basehor outscored Lansing 21-8 in the second quarter, but that was the Bobcats' lone double-digit quarter of the game. They scored just five points in the third quarter and seven in the fourth. Meanwhile, Brian Beall buried back-to-back three-pointers and reignited the Lions' offense. They scored 14 points in the third quarter and 15 more in the fourth to pull away for the victory.
Richie O'Donnell led LHS with 12 points, Beall had 11 and Sigle and Chris Hill scored six. Four players - Elias Moya, Bucky Zimmerman, Kevin Johnson and Ryan Delich - had four points apiece and Cody Rush added two.
