Substate basketball brackets almost finalized

February 19, 2007

The brackets for Lansing High's Class 5A basketball substate are almost set.

They're not complete yet ... but almost.

The Highland Park boys, ranked 18th nationally and No. 1 in Kansas in any class, are 17-0 and have the top seed locked up. Gardner-Edgerton also has the No. 2-seed secured, and Mill Valley will be the No. 3-seed in the boys bracket. Two games separate the remaining five teams, however.

On the girls' side, Gardner is in control of the No. 1 seed, although it hasn't locked it up just yet. Topeka Seaman has been on a hot streak lately and is 11-6. Mill Valley and Bonner Springs are in a battle for the third and fourth spots. Meanwhile, Lansing and Shawnee Heights are in a deadlock for the fifth and sixth positions.
