JV girls pull away from Santa Fe
Carbondale The Lansing High and Santa Fe Trail girls went toe to toe for two quarters of junior varsity basketball Tuesday night before the Lions put the game away with a third-quarter surge.

Santa Fe took an 11-9 lead in the first quarter, but Lansing stepped up its defense in the second quarter and held the Chargers to five points. The tough defense allowed the Lions to take a 17-16 lead at halftime.
Freshman point guard Abbey Lozenski sparked an offensive explosion in the third quarter by pouring in seven of Lansing's 17 points in the quarter. The big burst gave LHS a 34-27 lead entering the fourth quarter. Freshman Kari Kelly scored four points in the final eight minutes to help the Lions protect their lead.
Lozenski and freshman Katelyn Griffen led Lansing with eight points apiece, Katie Smith and Alexis Ellis each scored six, Kelly and Cassandra Murphy had four and Amy Briggs and Katie Cristiano chipped in two.
Lansing (2-2) next plays at 4:30 p.m. Friday at home against Turner.
