Area prepares for another round of winter
Lansing and the area have escaped the worst of a winter storm that is causing havoc across the Midwest, but a winter weather advisory for Leavenworth County remains in effect until midnight Sunday night.
The National Weather Service said occasional light freezing drizzle possibly mixed at times with light snow would continue through the late evening hours Saturday. Little or no accumulation was expected Saturday evening or through the overnight hours.
The final round of precipitation is expected to move into the area between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday. It is anticipated the precipitation will be in the form of sleet at the onset with a gradual transition over to snow during the afternoon. Snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches will be possible before the snow tapers off Sunday night.
A winter weather advisory means that periods of snow and sleet will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibility and use caution while driving.
