Gary A. McRill

Private graveside services for Gary A. McRill, 65, Lansing, will be Friday, Jan. 26, at Mount Muncie Cemetery, Lansing.

Mr. McRill died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2007, after a three-year battle with cancer.

He was born Aug. 17, 1941, in Leavenworth, the son of Ralph A. and Mildred "Juanita" (Hawkins) McRill.

Mr. McRill was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish and camp with friends and family. He was also a part-time farmer, working the same land purchased in Jarbalo by his ancestors in 1854. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves.

Mr. McRill's distinguished career with the federal government spanned 34 years. He received many awards of recognition for outstanding service, retiring in 1997 as a supervisor special agent in charge with the Office of Inspector General, Department of Health and Human Services, Chicago Region.

Along with his son Michael, Mr. McRill was active in Boy Scout Troop 173, serving as a leader. He recently received an "Award of Service" from the troop. He was an active member of Lansing Lions Club and a 44-year member of Masons King Solomon Lodge No. 10. He and his family are longtime members of First United Methodist Church in Leavenworth.

On Aug. 6, 1983 he married Deborah Wendleton; she survives at the home.

Other survivors include his children; Grant, Olathe, Shannon, Kansas City, Kan., and Michael, Lansing; a granddaughter; and his best friend, Richard "Dick" Murray.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at their home at 232 Oakridge St., Lansing.

The family suggests memorials to Leavenworth Animal Welfare Society (LAWS) or Boy Scout Troop 173, sent in care of R.L. Leintz Funeral Home 4701 10th Ave., Leavenworth 66048.
