A memorial service for Martine Piper, 93, of Atchison, was Friday, Jan. 19, at Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home in Atchison.
Mrs. Piper died Monday, Jan. 15, 2007, at Atchison Medicalodge.
She was born Jan. 18, 1913, in Potter, the daughter of Thomas Jefferson and Bertha Kreutzer Highfill.
Mrs. Piper taught for several years in the Potter school system. She later worked in the cafeterias at Leavenworth High School and North Broadway School in Leavenworth.
She was a member of Atchison United Methodist Church and was active in its Women's Club. She also served as treasurer of the Fairview Cemetery Association.
She and Floyd Benton Piper were married Dec. 24, 1931, in Atchison. He died Aug. 31, 1997.
Survivors include a son, David D. Piper, Litchfield, Ohio; a daughter, Linda L. Baltimore, Montclair, Va.; two sisters, Alma Noll, Leavenworth, and Frances Gillaspie, Lansing; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to the Fairview Cemetery Association, sent in care of the funeral home, 208 N. Fifth St., Atchison 66002.
