LHS JV girls roll against Bonner Springs
Bonner Springs An explosive first quarter of offense and a stifling display of defense in the third quarter were an unbeatable one-two punch for the Lansing High junior varsity girls basketball team on Friday night.
Lansing (5-3) defeated Bonner Springs, 47-35, but the game wasn't that close. Katie Smith and Alexis Ellis scored four points apiece in the first quarter and Abbey Lozenski and Katelyn Griffen buried three-pointers as LHS surged to a 16-8 lead.
Two more treys by Lozenski and a bucket by Katie Cristiano extended the advantage to 24-14 by halftime.
Although comfortably ahead, the Lions didn't let up in the third quarter. Instead, they turned up the pressure on defense and held the Bravettes scoreless for the first 7:32 of the second half. Meanwhile, Griffen scored nine more points and extended the Lions' lead to 24 points.
Bonner heated up from three-point range in the fourth quarter, but by then it was way too late.
Griffen led LHS with 14 points, Ellis had 11, Lozenski scored nine, Smith had seven, Cristiano added four and Cassandra Murphy chipped in two.
