Prison staffer attacked

July 4, 2007

A Lansing Correctional Facility staff member was flown to a Kansas City hospital after being attacked by an inmate Tuesday.

A news release said the prison was placed on lockdown status after the attack about 4:45 p.m. Tuesday in the maximum-security unit.

The staff member was treated by EMS at the scene and then transported by life flight helicopter to a Kansas City hospital.

Prison officials said the assault appeared to be an isolated incident. The lone inmate attacker was placed in segregation on investigation status.

There was no word on the injuries of condition of the staffer. The investigation into the attack continues.
