Extension summer intern helping with 4-H
Catherine Metzgar, 20, of Mound City, Mo., is spending her summer as an intern with the K-State Research and Extension Leavenworth County Office.
Throughout the summer, Metzgar will work with the office's 4-H agent on various programs. So far she has attended the annual 4-H camp in Rock Springs 4-H Center, in the Flint Hills. She has also helped a 4-H participant make a "Healthy Lifestyles Kit" for a leadership project.
Metzgar said she was keeping busy but having a lot of fun at the same time.
Metzgar is a junior at Kansas State University, majoring in nutrition and exercise science. She said she chose that particular area of study because it was something that affects everyone.
She said what she likes most about the major is the idea of being able to relate to people and help them with health and nutrition issues. She said she was particularly interested in the health of young children and childhood obesity.
In the coming weeks, she will be entering information in the computer from 4-H participants about what projects they will enter in the county fair.
