Letter: July 4th was a great success

To the Editor:

The Independence Day Celebration in Basehor was a success despite the rain before and during the parade. We want to take this opportunity to thank the many people and organizations responsible for the success of the July activities.

First, a big thank you to Lara Hastings and the Basehor Sentinel for the publicity the two weeks prior to the Fourth. To the City of Basehor and the Police Department for directing traffic and participating in the parade. To the Volunteer Fire Departments from Fairmount, Stranger and Sherman Townships for providing theire trucks and other pieces of equipment in the parade. To Fred Box and members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #11499or leading the parade with the color guard as well as having several cars and the flag float.

Also, for providing food and drink from their chuck wagon at Basehor-Linwood High School. To Boy Scout Troup 169 and their parents for marching in the parade and helping set up tables and chairs at the high school. A special thanks to Joe Keeler and U.S.D. 458 for the use of the parking lot, concession stand, PA system and bleachers at the football field.

Thanks also goes to Jack Brock for supplying the dunk tank and city officials Chris Garcia, Terry Horner, Terry Thomas and Carl Slaugh for their time in the dunk tank. To Julian Espinoza for announcing the parade entries and for being the emcee of the events on the school grounds. Thanks to Hannah Brown for singing the National Anthem and the musical group Soul Salvation for providing two hours of great music at no charge.

Again, thanks to the VFW for raising the American Flag, a 21-gun salute, and playing taps prior to the fireworks display. To the women from Dreams Come True and Gold PRIDE for providing cakes for the cake walk and to Nola Cooper and her granddaughter, Erryn Denk, for operating the cake walk. To the pyrotechnicians Danny Dearinger, Chris Dearinger, John Matthews, and Mike McDowell for a fantastic fireworks display.

To the City of Basehor, the Chamber of Commerce and the many businesses for providing funds for the fireworks display. Finally, thanks goes to all the citizens that came out to celebrate and support the annual Fourth of July festivities in Basehor.Chuck Wilderson, Chairman
